About ChineseStudy
ChineseStudy is a multilingual learning project for readers around the world.
We make Chinese classics easier to approach by bringing together original passages, pronunciation support, modern-language translations, reading notes, and translations in multiple languages. Readers can begin with individual chapters and passages, whether or not they already know Chinese.
How we prepare the content
Content is organized by chapter and passage. The original text retains its rhythm wherever possible. Pronunciation support helps readers recognize the Chinese text, while translations and reading notes focus on clarity, meaning, and connections within each work.
Translations are adapted to the conventions of each language rather than produced through word-for-word substitution. As ChineseStudy grows, more languages will be added so that readers from different regions can study Chinese classics in a language familiar to them.
Editorial responsibility
The content on this site is compiled, translated, and edited by chinesestudy.org using publicly accessible material available online.
Classical works often have multiple editions, punctuation traditions, and interpretations. ChineseStudy does not present one interpretation as the only possible reading.
Scope
ChineseStudy is intended for general reading and introductory study. It is not a replacement for critical editions, specialist commentaries, or academic research. Content used for research, publication, or other formal purposes should be checked against professional materials.
Updates and corrections
Content is revised as it is reviewed and as reader feedback is received. The update date shown on a page represents its most recent substantive revision.
