Jia Ren / The Family: In family affairs, it is favorable for women to be firm and true.

This is the judgment of Jia Ren (The Family), setting the overall situation and guiding principle for the whole hexagram. “constancy” means holding to what is correct over time.

First Nine: A household role is established and no regret follows.

The first line is the lowest position, where a situation is just beginning and its strength is still forming. “regret” or “difficulty” points to trouble caused by an ill-measured action.

Second Six: There is no advance in what can be accomplished; stay in the middle of household provisioning. If one is steadfast, this is auspicious.

The second line often suggests a central and emerging position: no longer hidden, but not yet in command. “constancy” means holding to what is correct over time; “auspicious” indicates a favorable direction.

Third Nine: The household grows loud and forceful; there is regret mixed with danger, yet matters can still end well. The wife and children are playful and carefree, and the end is regretful.

The third line stands at the end of the lower trigram, where effort and pressure increase and caution becomes important. “auspicious” indicates a favorable direction; “danger” calls for vigilance; “regret” or “difficulty” points to trouble caused by an ill-measured action.

Fourth Six: The family prospers and accumulates resources; this is highly auspicious.

The fourth line enters the upper trigram and marks a threshold between holding back and advancing. “auspicious” indicates a favorable direction.

Fifth Nine: The ruler takes on the household role in proper order; no need to worry, and this is auspicious.

The fifth line is near the honored position, where influence can be exercised if power remains aligned with what is right. “auspicious” indicates a favorable direction.

Top Nine: There is sincere trust and a dignified force; in the end, the outcome is good.

The top line is the end of the hexagram's movement, often warning about excess, culmination, or the need to change course. “sincerity” points to trustworthiness and inner confidence; “auspicious” indicates a favorable direction.
