Mencius said, “Shun was born at Zhufeng, moved to Fuxia, and died at Mingtiao; he was a man of the eastern Yi. King Wen was born at Qizhou and died at Biying; he was a man of the western Yi. The places were more than a thousand li apart, and their eras more than a thousand years apart. Yet when each gained the opportunity to put his way into practice in the Central States, it was like two halves of a tally fitting together. The guiding measure of the sages of earlier and later times was one and the same.”
