English translation

Mencius said, “Those of sound moral character nurture those who have not yet attained it; those with ability nurture those without it. That is why people are glad to have worthy fathers and elder brothers. If those of sound character abandoned those who had not yet attained it, and the able abandoned the unable, the distance between the worthy and unworthy would be less than an inch.”
