Where is your home? Mine is at Hengtang.

English translation
Pause your boat a moment and let me ask — perhaps we come from the same home region.
The two boats meet briefly on the water. Perhaps carries hope without certainty, allowing the approach to remain open and tactful.
Commentary
An Acquaintance Begins with Home
All four lines belong to the young woman, and shared origin gives her a reason to speak. Travelers on the water are strangers, but a common home can quickly shorten distance. She names Hengtang before asking the other boat to stop, direct without being careless. What she wants to establish first is not rank or name, but whether they share a place of origin.
A Poem That Stops a Boat
The scene is naturally in motion: two boats meet and will soon pass. Pause the boat briefly arrests that movement and creates time for speech. The poem ends at same home region without giving an answer; the companion poem that follows sounds like a reply from across the water.
