上片从暑气将退写起：“对雌霓挂雨”[1]，“雄风拂槛”[2][3]之后，才说“微收烦暑”——热意只是稍减，并未散尽。季节变化落在“渐”字和“一叶惊秋”：一片落叶先让人察觉秋意，残蝉声再把时间推到傍晚，“素商时序”[4]则点明已入秋。视线从天边的虹雨移到身旁的风，再落到耳边蝉声；“微收”与“一叶”之间，正是暑未尽、秋已来的时刻。带着这层余热，下片“凭高尽日”的等待才有了起点。

The upper stanza begins with heat easing, not with autumn fully arrived. A secondary rainbow hangs with rain[1], while a strong wind brushes the railing[2][3]; only then does the poem say the oppressive heat has “slightly eased.” The seasonal turn rests on “gradually” and “one leaf startles autumn”: a single leaf lets the speaker notice the change, the remnant cicadas place it in evening, and “Su Shang” (素商)[4] names the season as autumn. The senses move from rainbow and rain in the sky, to wind beside the speaker, then to cicadas in the ear. Between “slightly eased” and “one leaf” lies the moment when summer heat remains but autumn has begun. That lingering warmth gives the daylong waiting in the lower stanza its starting point.

“览景想前欢，指神京、非雾非烟深处”把眼前景物接到回忆上。动作落在“指”：登高远望的视线指向神京，远景由此触发对往日的追想。“非雾非烟”[5]保留字面否定；结合“指神京”“深处”，本文将它读作远望中难以辨认的景象，不据此认定仙境或某座现实城市。词中也没有说明“前欢”与下片“故人难聚”的“故人”具体是谁，赏析只沿着“想”到“难聚”的情绪线索，不替人物补出身份。

The closing line of the upper stanza forms a hinge into the lower stanza: “seeing the scene, I think of past delights; I point toward the capital, to depths neither fog nor smoke”[5]. Watch the verb “point”: the height directs the gaze toward the capital, and the distant view prompts recollection. The translation keeps the phrase’s literal negation. Read beside “point toward the capital” and “depths,” it can suggest a view indistinct at a distance; this page presents that as an editorial reading, not proof of a fairyland or a real city. The poem does not identify the people behind “past delights” or the “old friends” who are hard to reunite with. The commentary follows only the movement from remembering to separation, without assigning them names.

“凭高尽日凝伫”把等待拉长为一整天。“赢得消魂无语”的“赢得”像在结算：站了一天，换来的只有失神与沉默。“极目霁霭霏微”[6]转向暮色中的远景，接着是“暝鸦零乱”和“萧索江城暮”；“江城”仅依词面理解，不指认具体地点。结尾不再解释心情，而让“南楼画角，又送残阳去”的声音和落日收束全词。“又”字暗示这样的日子重来过，但这一天仍以残阳西下告终。

“On the height I stand fixed all day” stretches the waiting across a full day. In “winning only speechless desolation,” “winning” sounds like an account settled: a day of standing yields numbness and silence. The gaze then reaches the evening distance in “clear haze, fine and faint”[6], followed by scattered crows and the bleak river town at dusk. “River town” is kept at the level of the poem’s wording and is not tied to an identified place. The ending turns from explanation to sound: a painted horn from the south tower sounds as the final light of the sun goes. The word “again” suggests that such a day has returned, yet this one still ends with the sun going down.
