English translation
Mencius said that when Shun ate dried provisions and wild greens, he seemed ready to live that way for the rest of his life. When he became Son of Heaven, he wore fine patterned robes, played the qin, and was attended by Yao’s two daughters, yet took this life as naturally as if it had always been his. Shun was not resentful in hardship or dazzled by privilege.
