The Consequences of Killing Kin

Mencius said, “Only now do I understand the gravity of killing someone’s close kin. If you kill another person’s father, someone may kill your father; if you kill another’s elder brother, someone may kill yours. In that sense, you have not literally killed your own relative—but you are only one step removed.”
